A Thankful Thursday
Thanksgiving Day is almost upon us and however you spend that day or weekend, we know that much attention will be given to what we are thankful for. Many of you might even have a tradition of sitting around the dinner table and reciting what you have been thankful for over the past year.
We did a little reasearch to find what people are thankful for and found the following to be pretty universal:
Health Family Friends Education Memories Basic Necessities
Notice how these are all untangible things? Nowhere did we find "All of my bookshelves filled with books I have read or want to read", or "All the shoes in my closet", or "All of the memorabilia that I have stored away in boxes". Ironically, the one on-line source we found that listed things in their 111 Things to Be Thankful for This Year, was Real Simple magazine. Ironic because this is the publication that encourages its readers to live a more simplified life. What is the number one item on their list? Dishwashers!!! Yes, those of us who have a dishwasher are grateful (especially this time of year), but number one!!?? The total number of actual things on this list of 111 was close to 30.
Of course, there are things that we need to provide for the basic necessities of life, but when most people reflect on what they are thankful for, those things that are not things always tend to rise to the top.
We are both thankful for the time and attention you have given us over the past 14+ years, enabling us to stay in a profession that we enjoy with the ability to help others. Let’s all try to focus on the important things and people in our lives and less on our “stuff”!
Happy Thanksgiving,
