In Case of Emergency

The good news is that Spring has officially arrived…..and we all know the bad news….there will likely be more snow (sorry, that is probably not an April Fool), but hopefully not of blizzard proportions.

Here in Northeast Ohio we may have snow emergencies, but are fortunate not to be concerned with hurricanes and earthquakes.  However, with the advent of a new season, there are preparations for other types of inclement weather: communities have been testing the alert system for tornados and we see information on the possibility of flooding in many areas.

The Cuyahoga County Office of Emergency Management  advises us to Be Ready:  "Emergencies and disasters can happen at any time and any place. Even a small amount of planning and preparation can make a big difference."  Their advice is to Be Informed, Make a Plan, Build a Kit, and Get Involved.  Their web site has a wealth of information to help you Make A Plan in cases of flooding, severe weather, and other potential emergencies. Sounds a lot like getting organized for an emergency....and it is.

We recommend that the Family Communication Plan be supplemented with more information to share with additional family members and/or trusted friends.  You need not share everything, but someone else should know where important documents and various household information is kept in the event of a personal emergency.

As many of you know, we are the authors of a book, Where Can I Find It?  This is a workbook which will help you organize all the important information that you may need in case of an emergency.  Although the printed version of our book is sold out, the pdf is still available.  It has been improved by the addition of places to store other topics that are importance to you, and others, when the unforeseen happens.  This version allows you to change information as needed, and has the capability of storing more data than the printed one.

Even without this book, we advise you to think and plan ahead about who needs to know what in case of an emergency.

Enjoy all the beauty that Spring has to offer,

                                                JoEllen & Muffy
