Planning for Summer Fun

Do you and your family have a wish list of activities, outings and vacations you would like to do this summer?  Ever put off the planning and realize school starts in a few weeks and you have not figured out where to go on vacation?

If you do plan to take a vacation, choose the week now and make sure everyone is free...put the dates on the calendar to keep those days clear.  If you need to book a plane flight, hotels, etc., it is a good idea to do these well in advance.  Usually you will save money by doing this and certainly you will have less stress knowing the trip is booked.  Like to play it by ear and just go out the door?  We admire your courage and want to hear how it goes!

We suggest having a quick family meeting to make a list of all of the ideas you each have for a day trip, sporting events, concerts, etc. that interest you .  This list can be a road map for planning activities throughout the summer.  Prioritize these by how far ahead you might need to buy tickets, take a day off work, or book a hotel room.  Choose a couple of these, buy the tickets and put the dates on the calendar.  Now that the big ticket items are set, use the list to add other dates for day trips.  Cleveland has so many wonderful things to do - visit the Metroparks, the Cleveland Zoo, Lake Erie, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Botanical Gardens, the West Side Market, or try a new restaurant.  All of these activities can enjoyed by the whole family.

Planning a family barbeque or a graduation party?  The party will be more fun for you if you are well organized ahead of time.  Pick the date, send invitations, and then make your To Do List.  Shop for the paper goods, beverages and non-perishable food early.  This will leave only the fresh food items for the last minute.  Don't forget to have a back-up plan for indoors in the event of rain!

Summertime is often travel time, so be sure to have your guest room ready for planned or unplanned visitors!  If your guest room has become the dumping ground for miscellaneous items you did not have time to put away, take a few minutes to sort through these and return them to their proper homes.  Even if you don't expect visitors, we hope this newsletter will inspire you to tidy up a room or two...

Whatever you and your family choose to do this summer, we hope you have a  wonderful time!
